"LOL...OMG!" Summary
Hello All,
College has changed so much in today's society, due to the use of technology. In the book “Lol…Omg!” By Matt Ivester, he begins his book off by talking about how technology has changed today's college students lives.
Ivester talks about the ways that technology has changed the learning aspect in both the lives of the teachers and the students. He states, “Technology is completely changing the way that teachers teach and students learn—improving both exponentially”. Talking about how It is so easy now a days to simple go online and search something up rather than struggling to find It in a textbook. In my opinion, I feel that It is beneficial as a college student myself having most of our stuff online, due to the simple fact that pretty much everything is really in the palm of our hands. With all the great uses of technology in college, they do have their downfalls as well.
A permanent record is something that you can not change, everything that you post, are tagged in, been to a place, is all over the Internet. Ivester makes a statement that the mistakes that students make today, now easily search able and immediately accessible, might actually haunt them forever. From drinking to drugs, relationships to all of your actual school work. Everything is being recorded. So make sure that nothing gets posted or shared of something that you are doing that you know you shouldn’t be doing.
A graph included in the book states that since the Internet became a thing around 20 years ago the percentage went from 0% to around 80% from 1990 to 2011. Its slowly taking over. For better and for worse. We have to make sure that we are using the Internet in ways It should be used and not in ways that are going to damage our self in our future. Always think about the future, and be smart with everything.
