End Of Semester Blog

As I am finishing up my second semester of my freshman year of college, and wrapping up my digital portfolio class, I reflect upon everything that I have learned. From the very basic information about what's on the internet is on the internet for good to using the internet to get a job. Overall, I have expanded my knowledge tremendously about how the internet can be used in different ways. For my final class, we learned teamwork and collaboration and using outside resources by working in groups and trying to figure out a small task that we were given without directions. My group was challenged to create a soccer goal score keeper with the Microsoft Makecode  microbit. We built the goal using the cardboard and tape, and then hooked up the tinfoil that was put on the goal to the microbit and then made the code online. Within my group, we worked together to accomplish the goal! You can read more and visually see what was done by reading up on the article, " Micro:bit Electro Fo...

Interview Do's and Dont's

Image
Interviews can be scary, and one thing you want to do during an interview is to impress whoever is in front of you, which means you have to show and be the best you there is. Nerves can not get to you and you have to make sure that you are showing them who you are and what you are capable of. In class, we had the opportunity to Skype with Jane Miller (high school principal), Kim Miller (HR Director), and Diane Durish (chief technology of the greenbay area schools). Within the call, they gave insight on what they feel is best during interviews, the Do's and Dont's, and what they look for as the person interviewing something. Jane Miller talks about how you want to check and make sure that you have everything that they are looking for, because in the end, if you aren't what they are looking for you aren't going to be shown in the end. She states that during the interview and screening, there are 3-10 people that are judging and going to make sure you fit the criteri...

The ending of the book " lol...omg! " by Matt Ivester sum up the most important thing about being on social media which is that you are in control of what happens and what is happening. While growing up, we were always told to be careful and thoughtful of what goes online, not only about our own self but about others as well. Chapter 10 gives 10 tests that help judge your actions and help you think ahead. The Golden Rule- like everyone was taught in grade school, treat others the way you would like to be treated The Golden Rule 2.0- a twist on the golden rule but still contributing to the same overall thought, are you treating other people the way that THEY want to be treated. The Laws and Policies Test- are you breaking any laws? The Everybody Test- are you the only one doing something, are other people pulling the same actions as you? The Offline Test- would you do what you are doing face-to-face with someone. Would you make the same actions offline. The Real Name...

The Right Way to Use the Internet

Image
Being online and on all different social media websites can be fun at times, showing everyone where you are and what you are doing, posting pictures and sharing memories, everything we post is to either make ourselves look better or to show everyone what we are and what we are doing. Make sure that your digital footprint is somewhat that you want everyone and anyone to see. In other words, social media can harm you and your job. Before getting hired, a background check is usually done on you by the person that is looking to hire you. They look for inappropriate post, discriminatory behavior through post and comments, the proof of drug or alcohol use. They also look at how well you put together your resume.
